IPods in the Classroom
Most of us have at least one iPod. iPods can be great tools for the classroom. Many teachers are writing and receiving grants to purchase a class set of ipods. These can be used as listening centers, small group instruction and large group instruction. The iPod nano, Generation 5 has a video camera built in. What a great tool with unlimited opportunities for students. There are thousands of podcasts available, along with iTunes U, which contains information for teachers. By purchasing a cable ($10.00 on ebay) you can easily hook up your iPod to the projector and view video clips, podcasts and video of class presentations. What a fun and exciting way to learn!

There is so much technology that can be utilized in the classroom--it's hard to keep up with it all! I like the idea of using iPods. Like you mentioned, there are unlimited opportunities for students using these devices. So far, iPods, cell phones and the like are prohibited at my school. I think very soon there will be a transition to allowing and even encouraging the use of these technologies in teaching and learning. If educators don't incorporate the latest technologies they will lose touch with the students. I'll start with the iPod.
ReplyDeleteLisa,
ReplyDeleteI sure wish I could have had an iPod as a student. I am not how sure how effective I would have been as a student, but it would have been nice to play with! Of course, with having this kind of technology in a classroom a teacher will train students on what it is to be used for. There are so many options and opportunities for interaction in a classroom that utilizes technology like the iPod. With the iPod Touch/iPhone there are so many applications that can be used to further instruction. Students can access the internet, educational games, apps that are geared toward specific subjects, and communicate with each other. With the number of applications available and those being created every day there is sure to be something for about every subject in education! I don't have an iPod touch/iPhone myself, but from the time I have spent using them and trying them out, students would love to opportunity to have another way to interact with knowledge. Even after the novelty wears off students have a powerful tool capable of teaching education in a way that paper, pencil, and white boards can't come close to approaching. This is a great idea for students and teachers to make information, music, and video easily accessible and portable.

Hi Lisa this Sheri Jepperson from class, this is a wonderful blog! I was thinking about when I was in school(k-12) (long-long time ago),it would have been great to have access to tools such as an iPod, I had a hard time focusing in class and when I watch my students with ADD/HD and how excited they get when using technology-it helps maintain focus. These technology pieces also prepare our students to be ready for a workforce that is flooded with technology jobs.
ReplyDeleteI think using ipods in the class is a great idea. Any way we can use the technology our students are using in an educational aspect is very powerful!
ReplyDeleteI wish each of our students had an iPod. It would be fun and useful. I think you have a nice family and a great blog. My student are only in 2nd grade so they are still a bit young. I think older grades will start using a lot more of this technology in the future. It was fun visiting your blog.
ReplyDeleteLast year I bought a Flip video recorder. The thing I like about it is that it has a pop-out USB connection. The software is apparently included within the device too. Students love thinking that what they are doing is important. Having a project videotaped gives more gravity to the situation that nearly all students respect.
